i am 100% in on color film this year.
it’s been a slow transition away from black and white, which i used to shoot A LOT. and that was mainly because it was cheaper…
but it’s not doing it for me anymore.
i need vibrance.
dopamine.
COLOR.
LIFE.

i grew a bunch of flowers in the garden this year and it made me realize something…
i love flowers. i love colors. i love variety.
it’s enchanting. bewitching. addicting.
the earth is so incredibly lush and at the moment we need a heck of a lot more of that as well as the peace it brings.
and next year? i already have three times as many colors and varieties planned and i couldn’t be more excited.
most of them are native flowers as well because we need to start bringing these back otherwise we will lose a lot more than most know…native pollinators and nutrient dense foods.

without healthy nutrient/mineral packed soils, our food won’t have this in it. so what we are eating these days has far less nutrition than it used to thanks to farmer’s abuse of the land for corporate profits.

i’d love to turn this place into a mini native wildlife habitat and it’s already well on the way.
so, alongside this deepening appreciation for nature is building a distaste of black and white for my personal photography.
i still love viewing black and white images from other photographers, but for my own work, i only want color.
and my favorite color films?
absolutely 100% pro-image 100, to start.
then kodak gold 200.
i’m also a fan of orwo’s wolfen nc400 and likely in the future, the next series of phoenix films as long as they progress into the non-experimental sector.
lucky 200 is coming out so i’m excited to see what that looks like as well.
